Overview
- Deputies searching for Jesse James McAuliffe on a probation warrant found him in his car at an Ocala Publix parking lot on April 30.
- As they searched him, McAuliffe blew a melted residue from a bottle cap into Deputy Qubaisy’s face in what officials say was an attempt to destroy evidence.
- Tests later confirmed the residue, a small baggie, and multiple pre-filled and used syringes contained fentanyl, and the deputy is in good condition.
- McAuliffe was charged with possession of fentanyl, tampering with evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and he pleaded not guilty on May 6.
- The sheriff’s office released bodycam video and the arrest affidavit this week to document the incident and highlight the acute risk even tiny amounts of fentanyl pose to officers.
