Overview
- South Wales Police responded to a report of a disturbance shortly after 4pm on October 13 and detained a 17-year-old on Main Street in Barry.
- Officers found a knife in the teenager’s waistband, and bodycam footage shows a man intervening, assaulting an officer, and picking up the dropped weapon as the teen fled.
- The intervening man was later convicted of two counts of assaulting an emergency worker and of possessing a knife in a public place, receiving a community order.
- The teenager was arrested on October 16, pleaded guilty to possessing a knife in a public place, and on November 11 was given a nine-month referral order.
- Chief Inspector Jonathan Duckham praised the officers’ actions and said it was a miracle no one was seriously injured, noting the removal of a weapon from the community.
