Body of Woman Found Submerged at Lake Pueblo State Park

Colorado Parks and Wildlife recovered the body using sonar and an underwater ROV, then turned it over to the Pueblo County Coroner for identification and cause determination.

Overview

  • Relatives reported the woman missing after she went to Lake Pueblo and CPW staff found her fishing pole and personal items on a cliff near Yucca Flats Campground, prompting an immediate water search.
  • CPW deployed sonar and an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to search the waters below the cliff because steep slopes and boulders made a surface search hazardous.
  • Officers requested the CPW Marine Evidence Recovery Team as the afternoon search continued and located the submerged body with the ROV in water about 30 feet deep and about 77°F.
  • The family has been notified and the body was transferred to the Pueblo County Coroner, who will confirm identity and determine the cause and manner of death.
  • CPW expressed condolences, thanked partner agencies, and used the incident to remind visitors to follow water-safety guidance and exercise caution near cliffs and rocky shorelines.
