Body of Missing Jundiaí Teen Found as Police Launch Forensic Inquiry

Exams by São Paulo's medical examiner will guide investigators on cause and possible criminal responsibility.

Overview

  • The discovery Wednesday in a wooded area of the Eloy Chaves neighborhood ended days of searches, with the body found in advanced decomposition and sent to Jundiaí’s Medical Legal Institute.
  • São Paulo’s Public Security Secretariat said the site was preserved and forensic teams were called, and the case is now under a formal inquiry by Jundiaí’s Special Investigations Police unit.
  • Investigators established that Melissa Felippe, 17, left a prep course on March 28, requested a ride-hailing trip, and her phone went offline at the end of that ride.
  • Search efforts drew Civil Police and the Municipal Guard with scent-tracking dogs and reached the Serra do Japi, a large forest reserve about 12 kilometers from the school area.
  • Authorities now await autopsy and crime-scene analyses to determine the cause of death and whether any offense occurred, which will set the course of the investigation.
