Body of Eastham Man Recovered Six Days After Couple Fell Through Ice on Cape Cod

Police said easing ice at low tide enabled a targeted land search that located him.

Overview

  • Gerard Boucher, 72, was found around 9:30 a.m. Friday in a marsh about half a mile northeast of the Bee’s River parking lot, police said.
  • His wife, Kathleen “Kit” Boucher, 71, was recovered by divers on Feb. 14 after officers first heard her calls for help about 30 feet from shore.
  • Crews from multiple agencies used dive teams, drones and other resources during searches that were repeatedly limited by unstable ice and tides.
  • Two Eastham officers fell through the ice during the initial rescue attempt and were evaluated at Cape Cod Hospital before being released.
  • The couple’s dog was secured by animal control and reunited with family, and public visitation and a memorial Mass are set for Feb. 27–28 at St. Joan of Arc Church in Orleans.
