Body of 17-Year-Old Recovered at Lake District’s High Dam Tarn

The recovery has prompted fresh water-safety advice from Cumbria Fire and Rescue.

Overview

  • Cumbria Police confirmed late Tuesday that a body was recovered from High Dam Tarn and that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
  • The search began after a 12:32pm call reported someone in difficulty, prompting police, fire, ambulance, HM Coastguard and mountain rescue teams to respond.
  • Crews carried out shoreline, surface and underwater searches through the afternoon and evening until the teenager was found.
  • Access to the site was challenging, and local farmers used off-road vehicles to move rescuers and gear across the rough terrain.
  • After the recovery, Cumbria Fire and Rescue urged people to follow water-safety steps such as Float to Live and Phone, Tell, Throw, citing cold-water shock and hidden hazards.
