Boater Recovers Tucson Man’s Body From Roosevelt Lake

A private boater’s discovery ends a coordinated multi-agency search at Roosevelt Lake.

  • A 37-year-old Tucson man, identified as Ruperto Cervantes, went missing after he reportedly jumped from a boat to cool off and began struggling in the water on Sunday, Aug. 2.
  • Responders marked and secured a possible drowning site the night of Aug. 2 and suspended searches overnight while planning a multi-day effort.
  • Tonto Rim Search and Rescue, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, BORSTAR, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and other agencies joined the search over the following days.
  • A boater found Cervantes’ body on Thursday, Aug. 6, and the Gila County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the recovery and thanked the citizen and responding agencies.
  • Authorities have offered condolences to the family and friends, and no official cause of death has been released in the public statements so far.
