Bo Yang Jailed for 23 Years for Premeditated Rape of Burnley Sex Worker

The dangerous offender designation added a five-year extended licence.

Overview

  • Judge Richard Gioserano imposed an 18-year custodial term with a five-year extended licence, with parole only possible after at least two-thirds of the prison term.
  • Jurors at Preston Crown Court convicted Yang in December of two counts of rape, assault by penetration, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, robbery and possession of a bladed article.
  • The court found he targeted the victim because she was a sex worker working alone at the Burnley address after travelling there from Sheffield.
  • During a prolonged ordeal he used a knife and a metal bar, tied and gagged the victim with tape, stole cash and cards, and tried to transfer money using facial recognition on her phone before she escaped to seek help.
  • Lancashire Police said he was identified through CCTV, fingerprints lifted from tape and recovered WeChat data, and that deportation will be pursued once he is eligible for release.
