Overview
- UMNO, which withdrew support on Monday, left Chief Minister Aminuddin Harun two seats short of a majority in the 36-seat assembly.
- Barisan Nasional said it has secured a simple majority with Perikatan Nasional’s five lawmakers, giving the bloc 19 seats and a path to form a new state administration.
- State UMNO chief Jalaluddin Alias said all 14 UMNO assemblymen had lost confidence in Aminuddin and would notify the speaker in writing to formalize the move.
- Aminuddin said the ruler asked him to stay on and that he would remain in office until his majority is clarified, adding that the state government will keep operating.
- The political rupture followed an April 19 declaration by four Undangs that removed ruler Tuanku Muhriz and named Tunku Nadzaruddin as successor, a move Aminuddin disputes based on a contested claim that one chieftain had been dismissed last year.
