BMW Recalls 145 iX3s Over Risk of Electric Shock

Owners will be contacted to have the faulty onboard comfort charger replaced, a step that could slow dealer deliveries and draw scrutiny to BMW’s Neue Klasse rollout.

Overview

  • The German regulator KBA logged the recall under reference 16565R on May 28 and says 145 iX3 SUVs built between November 25, 2025 and February 20, 2026 are affected, with 28 registered in Germany.
  • KBA and reporting say a defect in the comfort/onboard charger can allow voltage to appear on the car body during AC charging and create an electric‑shock risk if the vehicle is touched while charging.
  • BMW and the KBA will notify registered owners and require workshops to replace the onboard charger as the remedy, and BMW has set up a customer hotline for questions.
  • Media outlets report BMW has ordered an internal delivery hold on dealer-stock iX3s until the charger is replaced, and no injuries or property damage have been reported so far.
  • The iX3 is the first model on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform and is built at the Debrecen plant, so the recall could affect near-term deliveries and raise scrutiny of quality control during the model’s early ramp-up.
