BMW Pulls iX From U.S. Market to Launch Neue Klasse With iX3 40

The move signals a pivot to Gen6 volume models that scale BMW’s new EV platform.

Overview

  • BMW confirmed it has stopped taking U.S. orders for the iX as it prepares to introduce Neue Klasse models, starting with the iX3 that uses the company’s latest Gen6 motor, battery, and electronics suite.
  • The iX3 40 is a rear‑drive model with a 235 kW electrically excited motor and 500 Nm of torque, and BMW quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
  • BMW lists an 82.6 kWh usable battery, up to 635 km WLTP range, and DC fast charging up to 300 kW that takes the pack from 10% to 80% in about 21 minutes, with bidirectional charging supported.
  • The entry iX3 is priced at €63,400 in Europe, sits about €7,500 below the top variant, and is slated to launch in summer 2026 as BMW’s volume entry to the Neue Klasse.
  • Reports suggest older Gen5 models such as the iX and i4 will recede as Gen6 SUVs like the iX3 and the next X5 EV arrive, and the U.S. shift follows 2025 tax‑credit changes that cooled local EV demand while BMW readies roughly 40 new or updated models through 2027.
