BMW Converts April Fools’ M3 Touring Into SP-X Entry for 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours

The fan-driven M3 Touring prototype cleared for SP-X targets a March 21 NLS outing ahead of the May 24-hour race.

Overview

  • Schubert Motorsport will run the car on Yokohama tires with drivers Jens Klingmann, Ugo de Wilde, Connor De Phillippi and Neil Verhagen.
  • The race technical committee has approved the non-homologated build for SP-X, confirming its Nürburgring 24h entry.
  • An on-track debut is planned at NLS2 on March 21, subject to weather, with additional laps expected at the 24h qualifying events.
  • The prototype uses the M3 Touring body over the M4 GT3 Evo’s hardware, is 200 mm longer and 32 mm taller including the wing, and retains the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six.
  • Special liveries will feature fan comments for NLS2 and the Qualifiers, with a different scheme slated for the 24-hour race.
