BMW Appoints Klaus von Moltke to Lead San Luis Potosí Plant Starting Jan. 1, 2026

The veteran manufacturing executive will steer the site's shift to NEUE KLASSE electric vehicles under BMW's $1.2 billion expansion.

  • BMW has designated San Luis Potosí as a production site for the new iX3 on the NEUE KLASSE platform as the plant enters its next phase.
  • Von Moltke currently oversees engine production at BMW AG and directs the Steyr, Austria plant, bringing more than 25 years of global manufacturing experience.
  • The plant’s expansion includes roughly $1.2 billion announced in 2023 to add battery module assembly and begin electric-vehicle production from 2027.
  • Opened in 2019, the complex employs about 3,700 people, has built roughly 500,000 vehicles, and currently assembles the 3 Series Sedan, 2 Series Coupé and M2.
