BMC Schedules 30-Hour Water Shutdown in Parts of Mumbai on May 5–6

The work connects a new 1,800 mm tunnel to key reservoirs to improve long-term supply reliability.

Overview

  • BMC, which announced the plan Thursday, will halt water supply from 10 am Tuesday to 4 pm Wednesday to hook up the new tunnel.
  • Engineers will connect a 1,800 mm line from Amar Mahal to Wadala, Parel, the Trombay reservoir and the Turbhe High Level reservoir while taking the 1,800 mm high-level and 1,200 mm low-level Turbhe channels offline.
  • Full cuts or low pressure will affect F/North, F/South, L, M/East, M/West and N wards, including areas such as Sion, Wadala, Kurla, Chembur, Govandi, Mankhurd and Ghatkopar.
  • Disruptions will vary by day, with many M/West localities in Chembur shut Tuesday before low-pressure supply Wednesday and areas like Tilak Nagar and parts of Kurla facing shutdowns on Wednesday.
  • Some pockets will see two-day impacts, including parts of Ghatkopar East and West and refinery belts near B.D. Patil Marg housing HPCL and BPCL, and officials urge residents and critical facilities to store water and conserve use.
