BMC Clears About 70 Hawkers in Kamathipura in Latest Anti-Encroachment Drive

Officials call it a push to keep footpaths usable through repeat enforcement.

Overview

  • The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation removed roughly 70 illegal hawkers and scrap sellers from public spaces in Kamathipura.
  • The operation covered Galli Nos. 1 to 15 and nearby stretches that include Shuklaji Street, Shankar Pupala Marg, Siddharth Nagar and Bapti Road.
  • Deputy Commissioner Chanda Jadhav and Assistant Commissioner Anand Kankal oversaw the action with 15 civic staff and police support.
  • Crews used five anti-encroachment vehicles and a JCB to dismantle setups, then carted away debris to prevent a quick return.
  • The civic body said the clearances improved pedestrian and vehicle movement and follow a recent similar drive on Maulana Shaukat Ali Road.
