Overview
- The club cleared Bieber on Saturday after a final side/bullpen session and announced he will be activated from the 60-day injured list to start Monday against the Houston Astros.
- Bieber completed a five-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo that included 17 innings, a 6.88 ERA, a 1.88 WHIP and 14 strikeouts, and his last outing was five-plus innings with velocity near 92–93 mph.
- The 31-year-old has not pitched in the majors this season after spring elbow inflammation and follows Tommy John surgery in April 2024 that kept him out for much of last year.
- Toronto has been forced into makeshift rotation plans because of injuries to Jose Berrios, Cody Ponce and Max Scherzer, and the club recalled left-hander Brendon Little and optioned Chad Dallas as part of the roster shuffle.
- Bieber’s activation gives the Blue Jays a chance to return to a traditional five-man rotation but his effectiveness and innings durability will need validation in live starts and will influence bullpen workload and future roster moves.
