Overview
- The Bureau of Labor Statistics will not publish a standalone October Employment Situation, so an October unemployment rate will not be produced.
- October employer payroll figures will be included with the November jobs report, which has been rescheduled to Dec. 16 from Dec. 5.
- September’s delayed report is being released Nov. 20, providing the last full labor-market snapshot before the Federal Reserve’s Dec. 9–10 policy meeting.
- The 43-day government shutdown furloughed BLS field staff, preventing collection of the October household survey, which cannot be retroactively reconstructed.
- Market odds of a December rate cut have been pared back as investors rely more on private gauges, including 232,000 initial claims and 1.957 million continuing claims for the week ended Oct. 18.
