Bloom Energy, Everpure and Illumina To Join S&P 500
The quarterly reshuffle will boost tech and health weightings and force index-tracking funds to rebalance before trading opens on September 21, 2026.
Overview
- S&P Dow Jones Indices announced that Bloom Energy, Everpure and Illumina will enter the S&P 500 and replace Molson Coors Beverage, The Trade Desk and Builders FirstSource, with the changes taking effect before the market opens on September 21, 2026.
- Everpure and Illumina are being promoted from the S&P MidCap 400 to the large-cap S&P 500 while the three departing names will be moved to the S&P SmallCap 600.
- The S&P 100 is being reconstituted at the same time, adding Dell Technologies, Palo Alto Networks, Arista Networks and Sandisk and removing Honeywell Aerospace, Nike, Simon Property Group and Colgate-Palmolive to increase technology representation.
- Index inclusion and deletions will force funds that track these benchmarks to buy incoming shares and sell outgoing ones, which market participants expect will create near-term buying pressure on the new additions and selling pressure on the removed names.
- The reshuffle reflects S&P’s market-cap and liquidity rules rather than changes to company fundamentals, but it will raise institutional visibility for promoted firms and subtly shift sector exposure for large U.S. benchmarks.
