Overview
- The State Election Commission declared Srijana Chettri elected from the Diesel Power House ward with 899 votes against Bindhya Cintury’s 384.
- The DPH ward was the only contested seat in the Gangtok Municipal Corporation election and it featured two candidates on the ballot.
- The remaining 20 wards were filled without contests, with the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha taking 18 seats and the BJP taking 2 after opposition parties stayed out.
- District Collector and Municipal Returning Officer Tushar Nikhare said the swearing-in for the Gangtok Municipal Corporation and the Singtam Nagar Panchayat will take place on May 2.
- The new council will be led by SKM with a strong majority, while the BJP’s seats, including the DPH win, give it a role in local decisions that affect services and neighborhood works in Gangtok.
