BJP Reaffirms United J&K as Omar Abdullah Reviews Snow Recovery and Rejects Split Claims

The chief minister urged residents to limit travel during the next snow spell and said he will order a probe into judicial exam results if credible evidence of malpractice is produced.

Overview

  • BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said the party opposes carving out a separate Jammu state and remains committed to a united Jammu and Kashmir, including territories under Pakistan’s illegal occupation.
  • Omar Abdullah welcomed the BJP’s stated position but said the statehood talk began with BJP legislators, reiterating that the National Conference has never backed any division of Jammu and Kashmir and wants Ladakh reintegrated.
  • Following the January 22–23 snowfall, Abdullah reviewed restoration work in Gulmarg, directed fixes to a new ski drag lift, and highlighted the tourism and water table benefits of timely snow.
  • Power supply, which fell from about 1,700 MW to roughly 100 MW during the storm, was restored to more than 1,500 MW by the previous night, with remote areas still being brought back online.
  • With more snow forecast, Abdullah reviewed the JammuSrinagar highway and advised people to avoid non‑essential travel on January 26–28, while saying the administration is working to reopen routes quickly.
