- The new station, which opened Sunday, drew praise from early users who called it long overdue.
- Weardale Motor Services began using the hub Monday with set stands for each route, and some departures move to stand A after 6pm.
- The site offers live departure screens, CCTV, accessible toilets with a Changing Places unit, a parent-and-child room, a retail kiosk, and a 124-space car park with EV chargers and bike parking.
- Durham County Council stationed a bus ambassador on site and arranged daily security from 3pm, and it will now remove temporary stops on Newgate Street, Tenters Street and Saddler Street.
- The £11.8 million project used the Government’s Future High Streets Fund and was built by Esh Construction with designs by Jacobs after the old station was demolished in 2023 and work began in February 2024, with opening later than a December 2025 target.
