Birmingham Stabbing Victim, 34, Dies After City-Centre Attack

The suspect has now appeared in court accused of murder following the victim’s death.

  • West Midlands Police said the woman was stabbed in the neck on Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 9pm on 7 November near the Bullring and New Street station.
  • Djeison Rafael, 21, was first charged with attempted murder, two assaults and possession of a blade, and has now appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court accused of murder.
  • The victim was named in court as Katie Fox, and the case was sent to the crown court for a hearing on 12 November.
  • Detectives say they believe the attack was unprovoked, with extra city-centre patrols in place and specially trained officers supporting the family.
  • Police are appealing for witnesses and footage via 101 quoting log 5503 of 7 November and the Major Incident Public Portal, and seek information on Rafael’s movements when he wore an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers and a rucksack.
