Overview
- Mandatory signaling for the user-activated soft fork was scheduled to begin around Aug. 9 and enforcing nodes will start rejecting blocks that do not signal at block height 961,632.
- Public miner signaling has remained extremely low at roughly 2.6 percent, a share far below the 55 percent (1,109-of-2,016 blocks) normally needed for a conventional lock-in.
- Bitcoin Knots released an enforcing build on Aug. 7 that warns switching between enforcing and non-enforcing clients can leave a node's stored chainstate unsafe and may force reindexing or reorganizations.
- Bitcoin Core has not merged an enforcing implementation and Core contributors stated it will not enforce BIP-110, and some bitcoin-only exchanges have said they may pause deposits and withdrawals as a precaution.
- If enforcing nodes begin rejecting the dominant chain a smaller, alternative branch could form and its survival will depend on coordinated choices by miners, exchanges, wallet providers and users, with potential service disruption for holders and businesses.
