Bills Release Renderings of 3 Giant Bison for New Highmark Stadium Plaza

The installation anchors a year-round plaza meant to root the new $2.1 billion venue in Buffalo’s identity.

Overview

  • The Bills, which released official renderings Tuesday, detailed three stainless-steel bison for the stadium’s front plaza and noted a few design choices remain open.
  • The bull measures about 27 feet tall and 29 feet long at roughly 23,000 pounds, with the cow at 22 by 23 feet and the calf at 12 by 13 feet.
  • Each sculpture uses a steel frame with a stainless outer skin, five programmable lighting zones in the eyes, nostrils and body lines, and a carbon-dioxide system that vents visible mist from the snouts.
  • The pieces are being built in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, then trucked 313 miles to Orchard Park for crane installation ahead of the 2026 season.
  • The Family Circle plaza takes the shape of a bison hoof print with local history displays and wall-of-honor dedications, and the bases, rock ring and raised platform are designed to deter climbing.
