Bills Finalize Joe Brady’s Staff, Hire John Fox as Senior Assistant

The veteran ex-head coach adds experience to a largely overhauled staff.

Overview

  • Buffalo announced its full assistant staff under new head coach Joe Brady, with former Panthers, Broncos and Bears head coach John Fox joining as senior assistant.
  • Jim Leonhard will run the defense as coordinator, Pete Carmichael Jr. takes over as offensive coordinator, and Jeff Rodgers becomes special teams coordinator.
  • Defense features mostly new hires — including Terrance Jamison (defensive line), Bobby April III (outside linebackers), John Egorugwu (inside linebackers) and Jay Valai (cornerbacks) — while several offensive assistants were retained.
  • The team confirmed a series of promotions and additions: Rob Boras to run game coordinator/tight ends, Joe Danna to secondary, Jason Rebrovich to senior defensive assistant, D.J. Mangas to assistant wide receivers and Kyle Shurmur to assistant quarterbacks.
  • Brady continues to stress culture building and alignment with quarterback Josh Allen, even as a panel of NFL coaches and executives ranked his hire eighth among this cycle’s coaching moves.
