Bijnor Police Make Two New Arrests in Social-Media Radicalisation Probe

Police say digital forensics from seized phones could expose a wider online network.

Overview

  • Police arrested Sameer, also known as Roohan, from Najibabad in a case tied to a November 2025 Instagram live that allegedly showed weapons and pitched recruitment.
  • Officers said the live stream involved profiles linked to Maijul and Aqib, believed to be in South Africa and Saudi Arabia, with lookout notices also naming Azad.
  • Owaid Malik and Jalal Haider were previously arrested in the Instagram case, which cites the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Arms Act and the Information Technology Act.
  • In a separate case, police arrested Raju Ram Godara of Jaisalmer as the suspected Telegram group admin linked to a Kiratpur arson in which a parked car was torched after being identified by a religious symbol.
  • Investigators said recovered phones are undergoing forensic and digital analysis as they map coordination across Instagram, WhatsApp and Telegram, including alleged plans to target vehicles and damage railway tracks.
