Overview
- Bihar’s road minister announced the cross-border corridor during the 2026–27 department budget presentation of over Rs 8,260 crore, alongside updates on other expressways and border roads.
- The planned route would start in Kathmandu, pass Bhimnagar and Birpur, enter India at Supaul, and run via Madhepura, Saharsa, Khagaria, Munger and Banka to Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar.
- Officials say the corridor is intended to promote religious tourism, deepen cultural exchange and stimulate regional economic activity in Bihar and adjoining Jharkhand.
- A detailed project report has been forwarded to the Centre, so any construction would depend on central approval, India–Nepal coordination and subsequent statutory clearances.
- If approved and built, officials project travel time between the two shrines could fall from roughly 13–14 hours to about 2–3 hours.
