- The Ojai Raptor Center said Patient 26-519, known as Jackie, died in the early hours of Monday, Aug. 10, after more than three weeks of round‑the‑clock care.
- Veterinarians treated Jackie in an intensive care unit with oxygen, supportive care and a life‑saving blood transfusion, and they performed CT imaging and a bone marrow biopsy during her stay.
- Care teams ruled out several common causes such as lead poisoning, obvious metal foreign bodies and cancer, but they were unable to determine a definitive cause for her severe anemia and kidney inflammation.
- Jackie was found grounded after an apparent altercation with two subadult eagles on July 17 and was transferred to Ojai for specialist treatment following rescue by local groups.
