Overview
- Bidar police acting on credible tips raided the Ring Road outskirts on Wednesday evening and intercepted two men who were carrying five country-made pistols, 26 live cartridges, 10 empty cases, five swords and a motorcycle.
- Officers placed the seized items in evidence custody and valued the haul at about ₹6.73 lakh while the two suspects were questioned and later remanded to judicial custody.
- During preliminary questioning the arrested men said they procured the firearms from Nanded in Maharashtra and had test-fired 10 rounds to check the weapons before bringing them to Bidar to sell at higher prices.
- A case under the Arms Act names four accused; police have arrested and remanded two and have formed a special team to trace the alleged Nanded supplier and two other wanted suspects.
- Country-made pistols are a recurring enforcement problem in the region, and this seizure could prompt tighter interstate cooperation, forensic checks of the weapons, and more policing of small-scale illegal arms markets.
