Bhopal, Indore Metros Open Trains for Private Events Under ‘Celebrations on Wheels’

The policy targets non-fare income to offset weak ridership.

Overview

  • MPMRCL launched a booking scheme that lets people host birthdays, pre-wedding shoots, filming and other events on metro coaches and select station areas in Bhopal and Indore.
  • The tariff is ₹5,000 per hour for a stationary coach and ₹7,000 per hour for a moving coach, with a refundable ₹20,000 deposit per coach and a cap of 50 attendees per coach.
  • Applicants must file requests 15 working days in advance and secure police, fire and municipal permits, and the corporation can stop any activity that risks safety or operations.
  • If station premises are used in addition to coaches, the booking cost rises by 50 percent, extra attendees beyond 50 pay normal fares, GST applies and rates can change over time.
  • The managing director says the plan aims to bring the metro into people’s lives, and similar event offerings already exist on other Indian systems such as the UP and Nagpur Metros.
