Bezzecchi Suspended From Czech GP After Hitting Track Marshal

The FIM stewards applied Article 3.3.2.2 to protect marshal safety, and the one-race ban cut the leader’s points buffer in the title fight.

Overview

  • After crashing in Saturday’s Sprint at Brno, Marco Bezzecchi ran to his stranded Aprilia and pushed and struck a marshal who had accidentally revved the bike’s engine as it was being recovered.
  • The FIM MotoGP Stewards convened the same day and suspended Bezzecchi from the remainder of the Czech weekend under Article 3.3.2.2 for conduct prejudicial to the sport, and an immediate appeal by Aprilia was rejected within the permitted window.
  • Bezzecchi issued a public apology, met the marshal in person at the circuit and offered gifts as part of a reconciliation, and Aprilia confirmed it would not pursue further appeal to the International Court of Appeal.
  • With Bezzecchi absent from Sunday’s race, Marc Marquez won at Brno and Jorge Martin scored enough to cut Bezzecchi’s championship lead first to 15 points after the Sprint and then to eight points after the main race.
  • The case highlights how broadcaster and onboard video now drive stewarding decisions, recalls Bezzecchi’s 2022 fine for a similar marshal incident, and leaves him with reputational damage and a smaller margin to defend across upcoming rounds.
