Overview
- Taupin previewed the album’s title track on Tuesday, July 28, and the record is scheduled for release on Oct. 23 via Vertigo Records and MCA Nashville.
- The Sea Has No Mercy is Taupin’s first album composed entirely of songs he wrote for himself and represents his first major solo LP in decades.
- The project was recorded in Nashville with producer Frank Liddell and the Tennessee Stone Cutters, and features guest appearances from Brandi Carlile, Lee Ann Womack, and Taupin’s daughter Georgey.
- Taupin says the songs are deeply personal and rooted in his life at 76, adding that he could not have written them when he was younger.
- The album is billed as a companion to Taupin’s 2023 memoir Scattershot, which has been optioned for adaptation, and it arrives as he continues to write with Elton John and contributes to John’s forthcoming record.
