Berlin Police Make Back-to-Back Drug Busts, Seize Cars and Large Cannabis Haul

Judges are weighing pretrial detention as the state criminal police take over both cases.

Overview

  • On Wednesday afternoon, plainclothes officers stopped a car on Uhlandstraße in Charlottenburg and, after smelling cannabis, seized cannabis, amphetamine, cocaine, ecstasy, two phones and several thousand euros.
  • The 25- and 35-year-old occupants were arrested, transferred to the Landeskriminalamt and scheduled to appear before a duty court for possible arrest warrants.
  • Separately the same day, Autobahn police found eleven moving boxes and about 20 large bags of cannabis in a stranded, uninsured car at the BAB 100 Oberlandstraße exit, and seized the vehicle and drugs.
  • On Thursday, officers stopped another so-called “cocaine taxi” in Charlottenburg, detained a 42-year-old driver and two men, and reported two police injuries after one suspect resisted.
  • Subsequent searches turned up packaged sale units of multiple drugs and a blank-firing pistol; the two male suspects were held in custody and later released.
