Berlin Installs Misspelled Leibnizstraße Signs

Officials plan quick replacements following an order they say used the correct spelling.

Overview

  • At the junction of Leibnizstraße and Bismarckstraße, three new street signs read “Leibnitzstraße” with an extra t.
  • The district ordered new signs during traffic light upgrades, and a state-owned contractor installed them.
  • Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf says it placed the order with the correct name.
  • Officials have not determined where the typo entered the procurement or installation chain.
  • Quick replacements are planned for a street named for philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz since 1869.
