Overview
- The Berlin Higher Regional Court sentenced the 30-year-old on Friday to three years and nine months for unlawful control of war weapons and for using terrorist symbols.
- Judges cleared him of membership in a foreign terrorist group and of preparing a serious state-endangering crime because evidence did not show he fought or trained with Hezbollah.
- Photos and videos he posted during a 2023 stay in Lebanon showed him handling Kalashnikovs, firing an RPG-7, and sharing Hezbollah propaganda and insignia.
- The court said his weapon use looked amateurish and found the arms came from a local clan with access to a Hezbollah range, which undercut claims of Hezbollah training.
- The sentence is not yet final and is shorter than the five years prosecutors sought in a country that banned Hezbollah in 2020 and counts about 300 supporters in Berlin.
