Overview
- High Grounds police registered an FIR on February 12 after a complaint by businessman Ranjith Kumar R over a February 7 post from the BJP4Assam verified X account.
- The FIR names Biswajit Khaund and Ron Bikash Gourav, convenor and co-convenor of the Assam BJP’s social media wing, under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 192 and 353(2).
- The clip combined footage of Himanta Biswa Sarma handling firearms with AI-generated images and on-screen slogans including “Foreigner free Assam” and “No mercy.”
- The video was deleted, Assam BJP called the post “unauthorised” and removed a social media co-convenor, and Sarma said he had no prior knowledge of the clip.
- Police say the post could instil fear in Muslims and incite hatred, the Bengaluru probe is ongoing, and Sarma earlier said an FIR was filed in Assam as well.
