Bengaluru Orders Iblur Flyover Plan as ORR Revamp Moves to Tender With 11-Month Deadline

Officials push coordinated inspections to manage construction congestion with a transit-first approach.

Overview

  • Greater Bengaluru Authority chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao directed a blueprint for an approximately 800-metre flyover near Iblur Junction, calling for modern construction methods and a rapid schedule.
  • B-SMILE will split the ₹450 crore Outer Ring Road facelift into two packages—₹143 crore for Silk Board–Iblur and ₹307 crore for Iblur–KR Puram—with tendering targeted to finish in 40 days and work planned to start in early April.
  • Concessionaires will be required to finish the 17.1-km upgrade within 11 months and take on 10 years of maintenance liability to ensure long-term quality.
  • The project will deliver high-quality carriageways, international-standard footpaths, cycle lanes and bus-priority measures intended to integrate with the forthcoming Metro and shift commuters to public transport.
  • Traffic police warn that partial closures could double travel times on the over-capacity corridor, and they plan meetings with individual tech firms on vehicle-reduction steps as agencies inspect Metro-affected stretches and address uneven roads, narrowed sections, footpaths and needed skywalks.
