Overview
- The R. R. Nagar police arrested Sharmila Sheshadri (50) and her husband Ganesh Kumar (52) and took them into custody on May 7, and both have since been remanded to judicial custody.
- The visually impaired victim had lived at the couple’s BEML Layout home for about eight years and in June 2024 placed gold ornaments and ₹49.50 lakh cash in a wardrobe while keeping the key.
- When the victim later found the key missing and opened the wardrobe with a locksmith she discovered the cash and jewellery gone, and she then filed a police complaint that led to the probe.
- During questioning the accused admitted taking the cash to meet business needs and said they handed some gold to an associate in Halasuru, where police recovered 232 grams of jewellery worth about ₹35 lakh.
- Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh has ordered investigators to fast-track recovery of the remaining funds and return assets to the victim as legal proceedings continue, a development that highlights alleged exploitation of a vulnerable long-term resident.
