Overview
- The arrest, disclosed Wednesday, followed a Monday collision in Kengeri that left 50-year-old Kempamma dead and her body found behind a Mylasandra bus stop.
- Police said Kempamma had reached Kengeri Upanagara around 12:30 am after a train trip from Mandya when an autorickshaw driven by 50-year-old Basavegowda struck her.
- Investigators said the driver took her to a nearby hospital, was told to shift her to a specialty facility, and after she died on the way he allegedly left her body behind the bus stop and fled.
- Officers reviewed CCTV and other technical evidence to identify and arrest the driver, and the body was sent for a postmortem with the family notified.
- A senior Bengaluru officer said the accused is in custody for a reconstruction of events and that traffic police are expected to take over the case as forensic results inform charges.
