Bellavia Admits Writing 104-Name 'Papello' as Milan Prosecutors Probe Privacy Breach

The consultant alleges a mole moved a confidential memo between case files.

Overview

  • Prosecutors in Milan have registered Gian Gaetano Bellavia in a privacy investigation tied to a million-file archive he says was copied by former collaborator Valentina Varisco.
  • In a public statement, Bellavia said he delivered a confidential document on 10 June 2025 to antimafia prosecutor Silvia Bonardi, after which unknown persons inserted it into a closed case file between 11 and 17 June.
  • He accuses Varisco of stealing about one million reserved files and identifies the owner of an investigative agency that hired her as the person who disseminated the memo.
  • Bellavia acknowledges authoring the 104-name list and says eight entries, including Luca Barbareschi and Flavio Briatore, came from the TV program Report, which he describes as open-source material unrelated to criminal probes.
  • He denies operating a clandestine dossier or espionage activity, alleges unlawful public disclosure in violation of Article 621 of the Penal Code, and his lawyer asserts there was no improper data processing and that the files were standard consultancy archives.
