Overview
- Bell announced its “always-on internet” package on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, combining an automatic cellular fallback that uses customers’ Bell phones as hotspots with optional uninterruptible power supplies for modems.
- The wireless fallback is free but limited to bundled Bell mobile and Pure Fibre home internet customers with Giga Hub 2.0 modems in Ontario and Québec and requires customers to opt in through the MyBell app.
- During an outage Bell will apply up to 50 gigabytes of backup data per mobility line for up to three days, after which any mobile usage counts against the customer’s normal plan limits.
- Bell’s power backup offers two UPS options that can run a modem for up to nine hours and is available in Ontario, Québec, Manitoba and Atlantic Canada, with customers allowed to use compatible third-party UPS units.
- The move follows Rogers’ 2024 rollout of similar outage-mitigation tools and could push wider availability and modem support over time, though Bell has not released UPS pricing and says it will assess expansion.
