Belfast City Marathon Under Way With Road Closures, Shuttles and Live BBC Coverage

Nearly 24,000 participants require coordinated transport, timed closures, real-time tracking.

Overview

  • The 44th Belfast City Marathon, which started Sunday at 9:00 BST from Stormont Estate, is now moving toward a finish in Ormeau Park.
  • A phased road-closure order is in force from about 06:00 through mid to late afternoon, with named routes like Upper Newtownards Road, Boucher Road, Falls Road and Antrim Road shut at set times.
  • Free shuttle buses are running for runners and spectators between City Hall, Lanyon Place, Stormont and Ormeau Park, with extra early trains from Derry, Bangor, Larne Harbour and Newry to Lanyon Place.
  • The Team Relay uses five legs with changeovers at Montgomery Road, Boucher Road, Falls Road and Duncairn Gardens, and shuttle drop-offs from Annadale Embankment.
  • Live coverage is airing on BBC platforms and Radio Ulster with Mark Simpson and Nicola McCarthy, and an online results tool is posting times as finishers cross the line.
