BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed on June 19, 2026 that the board is actively discussing India’s 2027 ODI World Cup plan and that those talks are internal and strategic.
Saikia said the cricket committee, national selectors, coaches, support staff and the players themselves are part of the consultations that will shape selection.
Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have expressed a desire to play in the 2027 World Cup but the board will treat their cases as part of wider planning rather than as automatic selections.
Fitness concerns, especially recurring hamstring problems for both players and Rohit’s quieter IPL form, are the most cited variables that could affect their availability.
