BCCI Issues IPL 2026 Practice Rules to Protect Pitches and Ensure Equal Access

The directive prioritizes pitch protection to reduce wear that could affect match quality.

Overview

  • Teams must receive fresh practice strips for each allocated session, with no use of an opponent’s nets or range‑hitting wicket, including for throwdowns or if a session ends early.
  • No practice sessions or practice matches are allowed on the main square in the four days before a franchise’s first home game, with state associations required to provide an alternate ground at no cost if requested.
  • Franchises may hold up to two practice matches only with prior BCCI approval, to be played on side wickets, with any floodlit game limited to three and a half hours.
  • From March 16, venues will allocate two practice nets in the training area and one range‑hitting wicket on the edge of the main square for each team.
  • Home franchises must arrange catering, medical, security and cricket facilities for both teams, receive first preference for practice slots subject to away‑team constraints, and defer to BCCI for conflict resolution, with nets kept open toward the non‑pavilion side and specified soil types used for range‑hitting at certain venues.
