Overview
- Former RCMP officer Matthew Jones testified that Christopher Duong said he had only a “feeling” someone would kill his family, not a specific threat, before Jones detained him under the Mental Health Act.
- Earlier that night, officers found the family’s Mercedes-Benz SUV abandoned with luggage, a large amount of cash and bear-banger ammunition before returning Janet Nguyen and the two children to their home and notifying child-welfare authorities.
- Constables Jason Kettle and Jordan Kealty told jurors Duong claimed a ‘hit’ had been ordered and that the family was being followed, and they described seeing a bear banger that initially looked like a handgun in the couple’s pickup.
- The inquest has not yet heard the causes of death; police said in 2023 they did not believe there were outstanding suspects or a danger to the public.
- Evidence entered at the inquest includes a 2015 civil-forfeiture record describing Duong as a violent drug trafficker and a doctor’s account of a 2022 car crash that left him with a significant brain injury.
