B.C. Hires 417 U.S. Health Workers in Yearlong Recruitment Drive

  • The cohort includes 89 physicians, 260 nurses and 23 allied health professionals placed across urban and rural communities.
  • The province reports more than 2,750 applications from U.S. clinicians last year with over 1,300 candidates registered to work in B.C.
  • Nearly 100 recruits have accepted positions in the Island Health region on Vancouver Island, according to the Ministry of Health.
  • Outreach targeted Washington, Oregon and parts of California through video ads and on-site promotion such as a coffee truck outside Seattle hospitals.
  • Officials say the influx is improving access to care and they are evaluating where to expand the U.S. outreach next.
