BBC Reunites Martin Freeman and Mackenzie Crook for The Office's 25th Anniversary Special

A one-off Remembers programme airing on BBC Two and iPlayer on 8 July will pair the two actors to share behind-the-scenes stories that show how The Office reshaped modern sitcoms.

Overview

  • The BBC announced on Thursday that Mackenzie Crook and Martin Freeman will appear together in Mackenzie Crook and Martin Freeman Remember...The Office, which will be broadcast on Wednesday 8 July at 10pm on BBC Two and on BBC iPlayer.
  • The on-screen meeting is the pair's first public reunion in more than 15 years and was filmed so they could share personal memories of working with co-creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
  • The programme will feature specific anecdotes including Freeman's initial audition for the role of Gareth, Crook's embrace of Gareth's distinctive haircut, and tales of Gervais's on-set antics that nearly derailed filming.
  • Freeman and Crook will also discuss their views on the American adaptation and name favourite moments from Wernham Hogg, while all original UK episodes remain available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
  • The special is meant as a retrospective that underscores The Office's influence on the mockumentary sitcom format and could rekindle public interest in the series even though its creators have resisted a revival.
