Overview
- On Wednesday the Amtsgericht Passau convicted AfD regional legislator Ralf Stadler and ordered payment of €26,400 for incitement, depiction of violence and violations of personal rights.
- The court sentenced Stadler to 160 day-fines at €165 each after he had objected to an earlier Strafbefehl of 150 day-fines.
- The convictions stemmed in part from a 2023 train confrontation where Stadler filmed and called two migrants “Pack” and from his forwarding of a graphic Telegram clip that purported to show executions.
- Prosecutors in Munich had taken over the case after the Bavarian Landtag lifted Stadler’s parliamentary immunity in June 2025 and the trial proceeded in Passau; Stadler has said he will appeal the verdict.
- Stadler’s conviction comes against a backdrop of repeated disciplinary measures in the Bavarian parliament since 2018 and highlights legal risks for politicians who post violent or inflammatory material on social platforms.
