Overview
- The Greens in Bavaria filed a motion titled “Frauen müssen übrigens auch mal” to change building rules so women and men get the same number of toilets at event sites.
- The current regulation for 1,000 visitors mandates 12 women’s toilets, 8 men’s toilets and 12 urinals, which gives men access to 20 fixtures and women to 12.
- The plan would apply only to new buildings, so long lines in existing halls, stadiums and festivals would not ease right away.
- Green MP Julia Post called long waits at women’s toilets politically intended and said she is open to options such as unisex toilets.
- The state parliament’s building committee is expected to review the motion next, where members could draft specific design and fixture rules.
