Overview
- About 20 minutes after the start, Christopher Mies struck a kangaroo at roughly 250 km/h on Conrod Straight, killing the animal and destroying the HRT Ford Mustang GT3.
- Race control neutralized the event, and after the restart Johannes Zelger’s Porsche stopped on the racing line following contact with a wall near Forrest’s Elbow.
- Ralf Aron’s Mercedes #77 then hit the stationary Porsche at high speed, igniting the Mercedes’ front end and blocking the track.
- The collision triggered a red flag of about 56 minutes, and both Aron and Zelger exited unaided before being taken to hospital for precautionary checks.
- After multiple interventions the race resumed, with Team GMR’s Mercedes-AMG trio of Maxime Martin, Maro Engel and Mikael Grenier winning ahead of High Class Racing and Team WRT.
